Instead of merely considering the cost per point (CPP) and demographic profile of a network when deciding which TV shows to insert a commercial into, this groundbreaking model illustrates the importance of considering the cognitive and affective sense of the media in which the advertisements are served.
FREMONT, CA: Zion & Zion, a full-service national marketing firm, is launching a new patented Ad Effectiveness Model. The agency's media and marketing science teams worked together for a year to create the model in order to better understand how TV shows encourage or impede ad processing by engaging viewers emotionally or mentally with the show's material.

"The Ad Effectiveness Model should change the way media planners and brands go about selecting which programs to air their advertisements in," stated Aric Zion, CEO of Zion & Zion. "Placing an advertisement on a show in the top one-sixth of shows with respect to affective or cognitive involvement, as opposed to an average show, will approximately quadruple the recall of the advertisement."
The model shows that services that emotionally engage consumers improve both the consumption and processing of advertising. High-octane ads should be combined with high-octane series. The model also indicates that programs that require intense cognitive processing will increase ad viewing; but, since a highly cognitive display will mentally tax the audience, it should be combined with a very simple commercial to increase ad processing.
